Taman Desa is being threatened with overdevelopment. In the latest PTKL 2040, our police station land and playground have been rezoned into residential sites. We have done everything else– now we are taking a legal stand by filing a judicial review.

Dear protectors of Taman Desa, I’m sure most of us have noticed that some of the trees at the playground area has recently been chopped down. It’s very upsetting, and we took some time to respond because we had to go through our lawyers on what we can update legally. For now, the hearing for the stay application has been set on the 29th of January, 2026.

In the meantime we urge all residents to not give up hope, the legal battle is still in the early stages, and we can’t let them bulldoze over our rights!

We implore you to think about what if this happens in your neighbourhood, a place you grew up in where the playground next to your house turns into another high-rise, with the traffic turning more suffocating by the day. It’s not just a Taman Desa problem, it’s a greater Kuala Lumpur issue.

When we first launched the campaign, we weren’t sure if there was going to be anyone to support us. However ✨ you beautiful people✨ really came through, be it through monetary contribution, spreading the word or even just volunteering your time with us. We were truly blown away by the outpouring support received and saw the effect of a community banding together to protect something important to us. In a short span of 3 months, the community:

📈 Managed to raise RM75,315, in which the excess will be funnelled to Phase 2 for Court of Appeal
🙋🏽‍♀️🙋🏻‍♂️ Attended at least 1 out of 3 of our townhalls
💡 Contributed ideas for the fundraiser
📱 Shared our posts (more than 1000 shares combined!) to raise awareness

In the next two months, we will be working closely with Thomas Philip Advocates and Solicitors on the next steps. During this duration, we have been advised not to divulge details of the legal process. Our volunteers will also be taking a short break until October to rest and recuperate after a gruelling 3 months. However, we will still be contactable via email, Facebook and Instagram.

Do you want another high rise condo in Taman Desa?

Think about it, a already mature neighbourhood with buckling infrastructure, traffic jams, double parking, gridlock rush hour traffic within the Taman itself, and we add 2 more condos while taking away 2 public lands at the same time. What is the point of buying into a nice neighbourhood if a few years later, it becomes someone else’s land-grabbing bank? This isn’t a problem restricted within Taman Desa, it concerns all of us, and the vagrant trampling of our voices.

The recent news that a developer in Taman Desa has won their appeal to resume construction of a certain condo has rattled many, but do we do nothing and complain? Make a stand and be heard. Fight back. If you don’t fight for what you believe in, you will always lose.

What is the point of buying into a nice neighbourhood if a few years later, it becomes someone else’s land-grabbing bank? This isn’t a problem restricted within Taman Desa, it concerns all of us, and the vagrant trampling of our voices.

The recent news that a developer in Taman Desa has won their appeal to resume construction of a certain condo has rattled many, but do we do nothing and complain? Make a stand and be heard. Fight back. If you don’t fight for what you believe in, you will always lose.

We had some extra eyes to take another look at the gazetted Kuala Lumpur local plan 2040, and we found a few more red flags 🚩🚩🚩🚩.

Due to our own limited capacity we can only take on the playground and police station lands. The rezoning of lands without public knowledge isn’t happening in Taman Desa alone. This issue plagues KLLP2040 in general, and we are doing what we can to fight this. We will be having our final townhall for Phase 1 in two weeks time to update residents about what’s happening, as well as what comes next.

When: 10th of August, 10am (Sunday)
Where: Taman Desa Community Center (little house in Taman Desa’s public park)

💪🏽 If you have yet to attend any of our town halls and would like to gain a clearer picture of the issue, don’t miss this chance to hear directly from us! Additionally we will also be sharing what the next steps of the legal process will be.
